Edouard Mendy has been reunited with Senegal compatriot Kalidou Koulibaly following Chelsea’s signing of the centre-back. The 31-year-old Senegal captain joins the Blues on a four-year deal from Italian giants Napoli.
In a photo shared on social media, the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations winner was warmly welcomed by compatriot and goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.
Koulibaly and Edouard Mendy are in Las Vegas with the rest of the Chelsea team as preparations continue for the upcoming season.
The towering defender becomes Chelsea’s second signing of the summer transfer window following the arrival of Raheem Sterling earlier this week. “I’m very happy to be here with this team at Chelsea,” Koulibaly told the club’s official website. “It’s a big team in the world and my dream was always to play in the Premier League.
“Chelsea came first to get me in 2016 but we didn’t make it. Now when they came to me I accepted it because they really wanted me to come to the Premier League to play for them. When I spoke to my good friends Edou and Jorginho they made my choice easier so I’m really happy to be with you today.”
The 2021 European champions will play Club America, Charlotte FC and Arsenal before returning to England for the start of the season.
