The hashtag #EndSARS first started in 2017 as Nigerian activists brought awareness to the anti-robbery squad’s human rights violations, but has been trending for the past two weeks after a video circulated showing a man being beaten, apparently by police officers of SARS.

For two weeks, Nigeria has been rocked by protests that erupted against police violence and evolved into broader anti-government demonstrations, leading to a deadly crackdown.

Young people mobilising through social media began staging demonstrations calling for the abolition of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), which has long been accused of unlawful arrests, torture and extrajudicial killings.

The hashtag #EndSARS has been trending not just in Nigeria but the world as a whole. Most celebrities around the globe have expressed their feeling hashtagging “ENDSARS” some includes Rihana, Beyonce and more of African celebrities for peace in Nigeria.

In view of the ongoing police brutality, Nigerian popular artist Wizkid tweated about the “Endsars” protest saying “this is not me/you or any individual!! This is for us and the next generation to com! Love everybody!”.

He is not in alone, not his family alone but everyone fighting for the future peace for the next generation.
