Church services can only last for 1 hour and with a maximum of 100 congregants” – Gov’t orders

There are terms and conditions that must be met by religious organizations including churches and mosques as the Coronavirus-induced restrictions put on them are been gradually lifted by the government.

Per the president’s address to Ghanaians today, churches and mosques have been allowed to resume their services but with stricter adherence to social distancing protocols.

Announcing the easing of restrictions on these organizations, President Akufo-Addo said churches must operate with 100 congregants per service and within a time frame of 1 hour.

According to the president, failure on the part of any church to abide by this directive will have the activities of the church suspended indefinitely including mosques.

“An abridged format for religious services can commence. Twenty-five per cent attendance, with a maximum number of one hundred (100) congregants, can worship at a time in church or at the mosque.

“In addition to the mandatory wearing of masks for all persons at all times in churches and mosques, a register of names and contact details of all worshippers and handwashing facilities and sanitisers must be provided,” he said.
